As the Up The Rocks club transformed into Armenian Mountaineering and Skiing National School, we started organizing multi-pitch climbing classes for young climbers.
Used to climb mainly in gym, the guys were totally stoked to try something bold, so we chose "Soyus 82", a 4-pitch 80m route, in Noravank canyon, which has its first pitch as 25m grade V ropeless climbing, and then some 5-6m runout 5b/c's which eventually brings you to the fourth pitch 6b+ climbing with 5m runouts between the bolts.
Zaven and Areg smoked it leading all the runouts, and Brayan, Mher and myself were enjoying the scenery with improving the anchor building and belaying skills.
Takeaway for the lead climbers was opening space in their heads for runout climbing, a skill that is crucial on alpine routes. Basically this and the coming clinic is to prepare for the alpine project that is coming soon!
